The history of China's rail transport

In 1904, the first light rail was completed in Fushun City, Liaoning Province.

Fushun Electric Railway is commonly known as Fushun Tram, which is derived from the Japanese tram. Fushun Electric Railway is not a tram. It is essentially a light rail.

In 1906, the first tram was built in Tianjin City.

China's first generation of freight steam locomotives Jiefang (liberation) was made in 1952.

The first metro line was built in Beijing,1969.

In 1969, China's first generation of electric locomotive Lushan 1 was mass-produced at CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive CO., LTD(hereinafter referred to as CRRC ZELC), Hunan Province.

In 1999, CRRC ZELC developed China's first generation of high-speed rail EMUs.

In 2004, China produced the “Hexie”( Harmonious) series of CRH (China Railway High-speed).

In 2016, Fuxing created a new world record for the rendezvous-speed by 420 kilometers per hour in the test on the Zhengxu High-speed Rail Trade Expo.

In 2016, China's first medium-low-speed maglev commercial rail, Changsha Maglev Express Line, was successfully opened to passengers.

In 2018, the world's first autonomous rail rapid transit system was opened in Zhuzhou, Hunan.

By the end of 2018, 35 cities in China (excluding Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan) had opened rail transit and put into operation.
