The ancient city, located at Alaying town and 30 kilometers west of Fenghuang Ancient City, was originally known as Weiyang City and was founded in 687AD during the Tang Dynasty. The Mao Ancestral Hall which was the main ancestral hall of the Mao clan in Shaoshan, was built from 1758 to 1763.
