Recently, Hunan Province held a cultural tourism promotional event in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, with the theme of "Welcome to Charming Hunan." Hunan Province and Vietnam held practical discussions on deepening cultural and tourism cooperation and promoting mutual visits by tourists, and cultural exchanges and mutual learning, as well as industrial collaboration, reaching a positive consensus on these initiatives.
At the promotional event, the Hunan delegation highlighted the province's "five cultural and tourism calling cards" represented by Zhangjiajie, Shaoshan, Changsha, Hengshan Mountain, and the Chengtoushan Ancient Cultural Site, along with Langshan Mountain in Xinning County—a UNESCO world natural heritage site. The presentation comprehensively showcased Hunan's abundant natural landscapes, cultural heritage, and tourism resources.
During the event, a lively duet of Langshan folk songs, part of the intangible cultural heritage of Xinning, along with the upbeat Hunan cultural tourism theme song "Hunan yao ding kuo" vividly conveyed the hospitality of Hunan people and the vibrancy of Hunan culture. Traditional handicrafts also captivated the guests and earned widespread praise, including clay figurines, T-shaped silk painting-inspired poker cards, Xiang embroidery works, and Baoqing paper-cutting.
At the event, the Hunan Tourism Association signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Hanoi Tourism Association of Vietnam, pledging in-depth collaboration to develop internationally renowned cultural tourism brands and premium travel routes.
Additionally, the Hunan Airport Group reached an agreement with VietJet Air to jointly promote the launch of more direct flights, optimizing air routes between Hunan and Vietnam. China Southern Airlines will introduce a new regular round-trip route between Changsha and Hanoi, operating every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
Furthermore, a Hunan-based tourism company and a Vietnam-based tourism company will collaborate to create cross-border themed travel routes, including tours of the UNESCO world natural heritage sites Langshan Mountain and Ha Long Bay, fostering resource sharing and mutual tourist exchanges between the two regions.
According to statistics, Hunan's total tourism revenue exceeded one trillion CNY in 2024, making the cultural tourism sector the province's sixth trillion-CNY industry. Hunan received 3.224 million inbound tourist trips, marking a year-on-year increase of 187.7%. In particular, Hunan welcomed 159,787 trips made by Vietnamese tourists, a 107.6% surge compared to the previous year, accounting for 6.6% of the province's total foreign inbound tourists.
The promotional event served as a platform for efficient cultural tourism cooperation between Hunan and Vietnam, and helped strengthen the people-to-people bonds between China and Vietnam. This initiative was a vivid example of advancing the Belt and Road Initiative.
