Hunan Tourism Picks up amid Downturn in H1

It was learned from the symposium for provincial tourism directors held on July 17 that tourism industry of Hunan derived a growth in the first half of this year against the overall decline. In the first six months, Hunan Province received 268 million person-time tourists from home and abroad, up by 18.84%; and achieved a total tourism revenue of 152.44 billion yuan, growing by 18.06%. In particular, the revenue of inbound tourism hit 334 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 28.84%.

The Hunan Tourism Bureau required implementing the “Opinions of the Hunan Provincial People’s Government on Promoting Tourism Reform and Development”, cultivating 13 key counties characterized by cultural tourism industry, forging new growth points along the Shanghai-Kunming high-speed railway, Pingjiang-Rucheng Expressway and around Dongting Lake. Active work shall be done to give full play to red tourism and “Two-oriented” scenic areas with distinctive characteristics, as well as build the booster of Internet and intelligent tourism. In addition, fresh efforts should be exerted to alleviate poverty through tourism in rural areas focusing on 8 key counties and 12 trial tourist routes in western Hunan.
