The Foreign Affairs (Overseas Chinese Affairs) Office of Hunan Provincial People’s Government recently announced that, the Chinese Government has approved setting up the Consulate-general of Laos in Changsha. The Consulate-general will be open within this year, covering the consular districts of Hunan, Hubei, Henan, and Guizhou. This is the first consulate-general in Hunan since the founding of New China in 1949.In recent years, Hunan has taken active efforts in implementing the national “Belt and Road” Initiative, and the “innovation-driven development and rise of Hunan via opening up” strategy. Hunan is building increasingly close relations with foreign countries and regions, has improved its opening up process, and witnessed remarkable international cooperative achievements.In August 2015, the Laos Airlines opened two regular flights between Vientiane and Changsha. Hunan reached letters of intent on establishing friendly relationship with Vientiane and Oudomxay. Hunan-Laos exchange and cooperation has been strengthened.The opening of the Consulate-general of Laos in Changsha will greatly facilitate Hunan and Laos personnel exchanges, and promote investment, trade, cultural, education, and tourism cooperation between Laos and Hunan, as well as provinces in central China. Hunan will enjoy higher reputation and influence around the world. Beyond that, it will assist in protecting the legal rights of Hunan enterprises and people in Laos, and coordinating civil and commercial disputes and consular protection.

The review meeting on Zhangjiajie national demonstration zone for protected eco-origin product (PEOP) was held on Sept. 9, 2017. The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine Assessment Group announced that Zhangjiajie passed on-site evaluation. It marked that Zhangjiajie becomes the first national PEOP demonstration city in Hunan Province.    Zhangjiajie City boasts six well-known titles of "China's first batch of World Natural Heritage Sites", "first batch of world geological parks", "'Zhangjiajie landscape’ origin", "China's first national forest park", "first batch of national 5A-level scenic spots", and "national civilized scenic area". The China Enterprise Confederation and the China Enterprise Directors Association announced the "China Top 500 Enterprises" list on Sept. 10, 2017. Eight Hunan enterprises were included. The 2017 "Top 500" qualified enterprises should have a minimum operating revenue of 28.311 billion yuan, an increase of 3.965 billion yuan over the previous year. There are 157 enterprises with operating revenue of more than 100 billion yuan, an increase of 5 over the previous year. The State Grid Corporation of China was the only one with more than 2-trillion-yuan business revenue, second only to the United States Wal-Mart. The 2017 World Wingsuit League (WWL) China Grand Prix will take place at Tianmen Mountain, Zhangjiajie, between September 8 and 10. Sixteen wingsuit fliers from 11 countries will participate.There will be a new route this year: taking off from the glass platform on Yuhu Peak; flying across the tourist square to the canyon; steering off along the canyon cliff; and, reaching the finishing line at the sightseeing cableway. After finishing the whole course, they will land with parachutes at the designated site on the winding mountain road.The vertical distance between the take-off point and landing site is 990 meters; and the linear distance is 1.3 km.
